Due to damaged wiring issues to a flat in a 3 storey block of flats (2 flats per floor) built in 1948, a temporary supply wire has been fitted from the intake to a flat on the 1st floor while funding is found to replace existing wiring.
The wiring used is armoured cable which runs out of the electrical store (through a small hole), up the communal stairwell and is cable tied along the balustrade railing on the landing, it then passes along the foot of the stairs and then up and around the door frame before entering the flat (again, through a hole) in the wall.
I have concerns about having a 240v wire running through the communal area but i'm struggling to find any information on this in the guides or BS to back them up.

What about the current lEE Wiring Regulations?
The cable transferring through a wall should not prejudice the fire or smoke resistance of the wall if it is providing protection of an escape route.

I was concerned about having a 240v cable in the common space, running along the floor and tied to a metal balustrade, with regards to fire safety. If the wire is in good condition, is this a problem?

I dont think i would be hugely concerned.
Firstly, it is a temporary measure and secondly is it going to present a huge fire risk, i doubt it.
I presume that the area is pretty sterile anyway?

It is completely sterile, nothing in communal area at all.

it's a steel wired armoured cable so no problems regarding damage unless someone sets out thier way to do so but even then thay would need a drill or a hacksaw.
