Got a small problem with some we have recently fitted, it appears the biggest battery you can squeeze in is a 7Ah, minimum Kentec advise is a 9Ah.
Anyone know where we can get 12v 9ah batts ?
It seems absurd that a panel with 3 No. Xp95 Xpanders only on the loop is going to need a seperate battery box to comply with BS.
Max dimensions of the battery that will fit are
151mm long - this isnt to critical
94mm high - cannot be any higher
86mm deep - cannot be any bigger
I tried all the usual suppliers but they seem to jump from 8Ah to 10Ah which is to big, i even looked at 4 x 6v batts but again to deep.
Anyone come across this before and have a solution that doesnt involve a battery box?

Did Kentec know, that only 3 Xpanders in the loop, is it on that basis they said a set of 9Ah is required?
Why don't you do your own battery calculation, according to the load you have, you may find less Ah required?
In the worst case, there is no escape from a cheap battery box! :)

The Synchro panel itself requires a 9Ah battery to give 24 hours standby, its in their data sheet
A 7 Ah that is the biggest that we can source that will fit in the panel and that is only good for 21 hours.
This is without anything connected to the loops or sounders or relays etc.

Having done the calcs myself:
Each Apollo expander is 20mA in quiecent and in alarm, therefore 60mA
If it s a 1 loop panel then quiecesnt of a loop card is 105mA, with it being 180mA in alarm.
Therefore for a 1 loop panel with 3 xpanders you would need 7Ah batteries (conversion equates to approx 5.2Ah req) and a 2 loop panel you would need 7Ah batteries(conversion equates to approx 6.9Ah)
These calculations are based on only these xpanders and nothing else connected with 24 hour standby.

If Kentec data sheet said 9Ah is a minimum requirement, and designed a panel box that doesn't fit 9Ah...,

Unless they manufacture their own 9Ah that fit their own panel, and in that case order it from them :)

Why not display your quote in here and lets see, what battery capacity is required.
Need to know how many of each device used : Detectors, sounders, EOLs.... etc

The MAXIMUM Kentec advise is 9Ah (chapter 23.4, page 31 of AS product manual).
The std size we use in nearly all installations is 7Ah.

I'm sure EMS panels come with 9ah. I will find out name for you tomorrow.

Kentec cannot possibly make a statement saying 2 x 9Ah batteries will support 24 hour standby... This is the maximum size for the standard enlosure... You need to calculate the standby required based upon the loop loading.

True but they can if they have calculated for absolute maximum load on a given panel....
But apart from that.....
Graeme is right, 9Ah batts are available through EMS... and they are the same size as 7Ah only difference is the spade connections are larger and don't fit standard panel tails - I still haven't been able to source them from anywhere else.
Be aware the ones Benz has found look physically bigger than 7s and may not be a direct replacement.
You can always order the AS panel in the bigger enclosure (M3 from memory i believe) into which you can get 12Ah....

The data sheets says 9Ah 12v x2, no max or min.
The load we have and what the control panel requires means a 7Ah will only last for 21 hours, technical support at Kentec has advised this is correct and the panel requires a 9Ah battery for 24 hours standby.
With hindsight I would have ordered the larger enclosure and put in the 12's but was a bit miffed to not be able to readily source batteries off the shelf for a standard control panel.
Thanks for the pointer to ebay but personnally I wouldnt feel comfortable fitting ebay batts into a fire alarm.
I am waiting for the supplier of the panel to get back in touch with an answer.

As can my supplier when he reads your post about EMS he supplies their equipment also......hint
My supplier has come through...Kentec supply the batteries.
