BS is a matter of money as much as standard

BSI certainly are making money, the 9999 doc is 458 pages long and costs 290 of our nice pounds for non members.

£290 for the worst fire safety standard to be written in the history of standards making is good value for money. Where else can you buy so cheaply something that will one day be in the Guinness Book of Records as such. Its history in the making. Think of the work it will make for consultants and rejoice. (Oh, maybe people already have???) Keeping people safe from fire in buildings is so old fashioned an idea. There's not a lot of interest in that nowadays.  Its all about being trendy and sexy.

Not keen on risk profiling then?, two exits for 100's of people and not 5, can not see the problems, well not until it is builit and people occupy it.

Risk profiling is fine. Schoolboy approach to fire safety is not a good idea. Oh and where were CLG and their CFOA chums when all this was going on? Oh yes of course, looking in the other direction hoping someone else would sort it all out, failing to meet commitments and shedding anyone who knew their situpon from their humerus. Silly of me to forget.

Prof K

Don't think Gill would appreciate the smell in the office, she'd probably think I'd been helping Martin 672!

Benzo: They are talking about BS 9999. Think of it as the Titanic: It was launched with great fanfair from a slippery slope, with inadequate design, it costs a small fortune, it is enormous and hence unwieldy, it will sink as soon as it meets an obstacle and it will probably result in injury to people.
The original thread was about the amendment to BS 5839-1 and the guide thereto, the latter of which, for you Benzo, as self-confessed confused of Essex, I will obtain for you at 50% discount should this appeal to you, perhaps as a Christmas gift for Mrs Benzo?

With reference to the Titanic - it was alright when it left here!!
Is the 50% discount only applicable to confused peple in Essex, that being the case I shall obtain a relevant false mail drop address in said area!

Buzzy, In fairness to the good and honest labourers of H&W, it is true that the number of lifeboats met the marine standards of the day, as, contrary to popular misconception, there was no need for 100% lifeboat capacity. However, the design left a bit to be desired.
With regard to my new, excellent guide, available now from all good bookshops in time for Xmas, in your case there would be a quadruple Bushmill supplement at Benedicts for transport to the Province next week.

Why all the complaints about 9999?

I used to have a  3 - 4" gap on my bookshelf which often meant that my other folders wouldn't stand upright

Now with my copy of the document bound and placed on the shelf, the gap is filled and all my folders stand up like soldiers on parade. Very smart.

So - for you cynics out there-  BS9999 does have it uses.

It's also very useful for step ups if you want to keep fit

Any other uses for it????
