Have been requested to carry out a rather interesting FRA - in a brothel!!! Any comments regarding identfying combustible materials etc??
-
Latex?
-
excessive friction?
-
Make sure you get the facts straight first , otherwise you wont know if you are coming or going.
-
I'm dreading working out a procedure for unlocking customers in the event of an evacuation????? Oh what a job!
-
candles?
-
Yes can be tricky. I'm sure some will bend over backwards to assist you but you'll soon whip round to get it done. Some would doing a job like that laying down and don't forget to wear something appropriate
-
Whats the payment terms?
-
You will still end up owing them money !

Attended a fire in a 'sauna parlour' one lunchtime (ish). caused by an overheated fan. (electric air extract type fan). Had no trouble at all with the evacuation, all the punters were long gone before our arrival. (5 mins from time of call). Found the entire crew checking the staff very diligently for smoke inhalation, exposure to the elements due to the nature of their working rig, obtaining telephone numbers etc. The fire had to look after itself for a few mins!
So, for FRA purposes, punters react as fine upstanding citizens and evacuate with alacrity. Electrical appliances abound. As for smoking, well the punters were gone so we couldn't tell if they were smoking or not.

Actually amongst all the usual hilarity & fun we inspected one where the bondage room was on the top floor of three, asked about clients handcuffed to beds etc, not even thought about. Suggested velcro not key handcuffs as a start!
By the way once audited an Ann Summers shop felt a bit soft stood outside a locked shop knocking on the door waiting for them to open, got some very strange looks from passers by :-)
-
Audited a full on sex shop once for licensing.
Just like you Stevo, I got some strange looks coming out. I was expecting a complaint to be honest.

Typical jobsworth.
What would be the evacuation strategy . Horizontal or vertical withdrawal first?
-
Ha ha. I thought that would raise a few comments! Well done guys!!

I used to be at a station that had the city red light area within its turn out area. One night we received a call to a house fire, we had a rather naive and young Oi/c detached in who wanted to call the local housing department because he thought the place was an unregistered HMO.
Oh - do you want any real advice is is this just an excuse to take the P

Half and half I suppose Dave. Have considered some things like the reality of people being hand cuffed etc, but on a serious note, just wondering if anyone had any experience of these places (no accusations intended) or serious issues to question when there!
-
Do they have any procedures to avoid premature evacuation?

Ha ha - I like that one Kurnal. Top marks!!

Martin...Stop messing about and take the matter in hand.
Firstly You need to consider an adequate fire safety strategy for this type of premises - but dont just knock one out without thinking it through properly.
Means of escape is a critical factor here - be sure to inspect all rear exits check to see if all doors are easily openable or whether their hinges need lubrication.
Keep abreast of any significant findings and ascertain if the property is well managed or whether they're just falsifying documents or massaging the facts
Afterall you wouldn't want to make a booby of your assessment. You are there to service your client and help them with compliance.
Be sure to ask if the punters smoke after sex...it maybe they've just never looked - but best to check anyway.
Don't be submissive in your assessment, instead be assertive and dominant and whip into shape those fire precautions.
Is the fire alarm panel adequate or is a slave required elsewhere in the building?
I can feel a ban from the forums coming on.

MR
Maybe Sgt Houston should move this to the banter section?
This is turning into a very tacky mass debate when serious issues are being raised here!
Prof
Would handcuffs capable of opening with a thumb turn be acceptable?
davo

Sorry Davo - I hear what you are saying - I'll go and stand in the naughty corner.
-
MR cheers for your comments, all taken on board? Ha ha. I was awaiting your addition to the thread with baited breath!!! Does this mean I can join the banter thread now after a very valuable addition???
Knowing my luck the Polizia shall have the place under surveillance the day I go and I'll be led out in pink fluffy handcuffs!! Apparently the brigade have already been in and were there for hours??????

Getting serious a just a minute some body oils used in body massages can leave a greasy residue on towels. I’ve recently come across a situation where these towels were then washed, put in the tumble dryer, taken out and folded, some time later they have spontaneously combusted.
The solution appeared to be use a combination of 5 different additives to the wash cycle including a degreaser.
My experience of this type of place is that they only use baby lotion – doesn’t matter how much you pay or ask or beg. I’m never going again.

That is a good point D'Dave. I've also known this happen (not in a brothel I hasten to add but a care home).

All are welcome in the banter thread Martin you don't have to wait to be invited you know! :-).

Can you elaborate on the happenings in the care home regarding the towels MR and your situation also DD?
DD. Can you also elaborate on the "......5 different additives to the wash cycle including a degreaser"?

Can`t name the additives no, but the situation I refer to was in a health spa, they use lots of natural oils during treatments. The night porter used to wash and dry towels overnight, he would fold the towels after drying and put them back in the treatment rooms. One night the fire alarm operated and his towels were on fire. The spa itself carried out lots of investigation and subsequently changed their procedures.
The main clue to this potentally happening is that the towels feel unusually heavy. The additives are injected automatically on specific wash cycles.
I have emailed the owner for a list of additives I await his response.

To all - thanks for all yr comments (serious and non serious!) As for the towel issue, point noted! Something to look out for, as mentioned hopefully only baby oil?
I shall keep you all "abreast" of the situation (sorry I nicked yr pun MR)!!

Martin,
Not wishing to be prude, but I didnt think Brothels were legal? Why would they bother to have an FRA and why aren't you shopping them to the police?
-
Life aint that simple.
Its probably a "hotel" or a "massage" parlour. These places are often quite carful to comply with legal requirements as the Local Authorities will try anything to shut them down.

So Soho is full of hotels and massage parlours then? Thats a bit of a disappointment.

Shame you can't do a "During Performance Inspection!!"

Yes it trades as a sauna / massage but my boss had meeting with owner the other day and there's much more to it than just a sauna etc!!

Ok here goes...Make sure the following safety systems are in place, Multiple Use Fire Fighting, (MUFF), appliances, Transistor Wireless Alarm Transmittors, (TWAT's), oh I could go on but then again it would be silly and childish and I may end up being offered a stand-in part if Ross or Brand are unavailable on Radio 2.....
-
Well, I've been, seen, and sent report! What a place?? Mirrors on ceilings, the works!! Think its turned me off for life??
-
But how much did you see?
Bordello Madame- for whom the belles toil.
