Title: Free call out who would accept it?
Post by: Benzerari on November 03, 2008, 07:59:35 PM
Many years ago, I have been told by some manager in an interview, we don’t pay for call out, if you do your maintenance properly…, the system shouldn’t normally go faulty, but if you are called out you have to do the job for no over time!

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Thank you

So you build in the cost of a couple of call outs into the maintenance contract fee?

Or you have very strict agreement over what is covered in the maintenance contract and what is not.

I disagree with the concept that a properly maintained system will not have any faults of activations.  Components will fail due to normal wear and teat (does he replace everything every 15/20/25 years); contractors and building users will cause issues (smoking, physical damage, burning toast) and there might even be a fire.

Sounds a right idiot to me.Certainly, preventitive maintenance can reduce the number of call outs due to battery failure etc. but (as in the case of an MOT for your car) what you test proves it was working only when you tested it - equipment can fail at any time.

from a managers point of view i think it's a great idea. all you need is the biggest mug in the land to work for it.

Indeed, and there is always companies who would sign up to this 'just' to pick up another contract!

Some one may say; does it still, some manager thinks that way?

The answer is yes, and even more than that :)

Excellent observation!

This obviously now leads to the appropriate nickname that can be used in the Banter Bar for Benz!
