Title: Passive and Active fire protections ?

I have just read an article about passive fire protection, but I couldn't get my head around!

Please any clarifications, even if you don't know the right explanation..., try just to express what you think!

active: something that responds to fire: detection, superession (sprinklers).

Passive: something that should always be there and not change: compartmentation (fire break Walls)

Well, the article I found in 'Fire Times' magazine, I have just received, of October/November 2008, volume 10, N: 6, page: 64, is really unclair to me. The title is 'What exactly does passive fire protection mean to you?'

Indeed it's the same one :)
