Title: Fire Angel Detectors

Can anyone give me advanatages /disadvantages of Fire Angel Detectors. I know they are still available but I do not see them in use a lot.

the obvious advantages are no wiring required

disadvantages that they will only fit bayonet cap light pendants and the light has to be on for a min of 1 hour per week to ensure unit is charged.

Lucky if my hall light is on for a couple of minutes a day.

It could also be fitted to a ceiling rose with a long flex down from ceiling and it only has an ionisation option which could lead to false alarms and beacuse the unit is plugged in,it could be just as easy removed if it kept going off if you did not buy the additional anti removal collar.

often wondered if when fitted to a light with a lamp shade if this counts as not having all round clearance?

The other problem I believe may happen is if the light is left on, the air circulation caused by the heat of the bulb immediately below the detector may prevent any smoke getting to the detector, other than from directly below the light fitting.

I would wager some of issues raised by other posters are reason for not achieving compliance;
and who would want to risk specifying on that basis?
