Title: Intumescent glazing

I have visited a premises which has 30minute intumescent glazing in several fire doors in 2 blocks of flats.   Several of these glazed panels have what appear to be misting around some of the the edges leading out from the rebating.  The intumescence has not activated and I supect that the misting took place during the installation about 3 years ago.

Anybody ou there got any ideas what this can be and if it is significant in the fire resistance of the doors?

My guess is that the glazing is laminated and the the misting may indicate that damp has penetrated into the membrane? Are the panes correctly mounted on intumescent mastic or glazing system?

Hi Kurnal,

I rang Pilkingtons and their technical department confirmed that your sumation is correct.  My guess is that the Managing Agents will not be too happy when I mention it in my report!

could be the wrong sort of sealant too. Iether way something's got into the laminated glass.
