Anyone (assessors or enforcers) any experiences with the Fire Risk Assesssment - Online Assessment Tools?
Are they considered a suitable and sufficient format?

The term "Hazard assessment" would be more appropriate for some that I have seen, once the hazards are found then judgement on the risk can be made and the online form makes no judgement of the real risk.

Do you find CFSO that this format is only a yeh or neh tick box, without offering a facility for mitigatory factors or resolutions?
eg. Is there a fire alarm system in the premises? Yes/No

It often offers a very simply answer as a solution. i.e. Do you have a fire alarm? y/n ... "n" prompts a reply about the possibility of requiring a fire alarm. As I said, no assessment of the actual risk, completely ignoring any judgement of likelihood or severity.
There is also the online 'assessment' via the fire gateway This is not intended to be an online risk assessment, more of an assessment to see if you are complying with the RRO, with the option to 'dob yourself in' to the authorities. :-|

And of course a "Y" should prompt for a description and if is appropriate and necessary.

Does it Dob you in to the Authorities? When I filled it in once it connected me to a private company in the North East offering fire risk assessments (with the initials H.E.W.) " people who we work with" the gateway site said. Not tried it since.

We have had some in where people have submitted them. One person filled in "don't know" for everything.

I have no idea. Some people actually want the Fire Service's advice. :)

I once asked the fire service for advice. It was 1974 as I recall. The advice I recieved was that there was no future for people with degrees in fire engineering and that it was not a subject suitable for higher education. They told me that one could never know a jot about fire safety unless one had been in the fire service. Clearly it was sound, objective and impartial advice, but this notwithstanding, I dont think I asked for any advice thereafter.

1974...Ah, the 3 day week, brown furnishings, Morcambe and Wise, The Sweeney, and fires every shift...Those were the days. What happened?? Oh yes, fire safety happened! Maybe they didn't get everything wrong??

Did you not ask someone in NIFRS for their advice on where one would go for a good night out in Belfast. Benedicts was suggested and the rest, as they say, is history.

Nearly, If you want an honest answer, it was actually Belfast City Building Control who first introdcued me to Benedicts, although my many good friends in the NIFRS are always welcome to a drink there, and some have been known to take me up on the said offer!
