Has the report into the above incident been published, and by whom?
-
Not yet
-
BASA (British Automatic Sprinkler Association) are running a seminar in Lanark on the 14th June this year, when BRE will present a lecture on the research findings into the Rosepark Care Home fire. I don't know however, when the report is to be formally published.
-
I believe there is still a Fatal accident inquiry to be heard.
-
I am beginning to get suspicious about the length of time this inquiry is taking. Such desperate lack of any interim information has a decidedly dodgy feel to it. Most coroners reports are substantially complete within sixty days. Why is this taking so long?
And yes...I am paranoid.

These things take a long time. It's not a conspiracy just long process.
There's pile of information which will have been generated by a range of different bodies but none of it can become public until the enquiry has run its course.

Many thanks for replies.
I do worry about the whispers that are going around Brigades and Rescare providers due to the delay in publication.
I understand that one Brigade in the North West has already written to care home owners more or less saying you must keep bedroom doors closed, or fit free swing devices. Do I see a knee jerking!
Not bad advice, but so much for risk assessment in these non prescriptive times.

Bedroom doors open or closed?
Swingfree devices?
Have a look at the relevant sections of the current building standards, they are quite concise. Regretably these residential care homes are just that. Homes where people live!

Think some of the issues may be:
1 Most important of all if the alarms go off you must dial 999 immediately before you look to see if there is a a fire or not. This must be part of the owners written fire procedure and must be followed at all times. Failure to do so will be considered as reckless and negligent behaviour and would lead to prosecution.
2 Storage cupboards should not be situated off bedroom accommodation and must have integral fire detection and be kept locked shut at all times if not in use
3 Fire brigades must not charge for attendaning any fire alarm request, whether there is a fire or for a false alarm
4 swingfree doors as standard for all bedrooms
5 improved inspection of care homes by appointment of fire prevention officers to Care Commission (or a separate national fire service section just for care homes)
6 mandatory minimum training for night staff, owners and registered managers to deal with small fires/raising alarm/evacuation as well as other staff
7 Central fire alarm panels locate fires not just to an area but to the precise location ie exact room or cupboard
NB Installation of sprinklers should reduce insurance premiums substantially as did so in USA

Is there any more news on the Rosepark case?
-
Nope - everything is still under wraps pending the Proc Fiosc doing his thang.
-
Persons have been charged under the H&S Management Regs.
-
Is there any information on the charges against the balmers or the breaches of any legislation
-
Still no details available on the charges or report as far as I can find out, the latest development I have seen is that the relatives are to take civil action against the owners.
