Title: Apollo Base Mount Isolators???

Just a quick one guys

Do apollo base mount isolators have to be wired correctly ie. in's and out's connected correctly?

I think only soft addressing devices such as Gent are polarity sensitive, Apollo ones are not, well the old ones. In general, for good practice it's better to respect the INs and OUTs from end to end, also for all makes, most of the new released Apollo devices are now isolated devices, it's better to drop them an e-mail and find out, they are so helpful.

No I wouldnt have thought so as the panel will have voltage out either side of the loop , but if the isolator open circuits due to a short you would want it to open the side of the short .

 Do you mean the 20d isolator bases. They are marked in and out so i won't not like to say for certain if it does or not.

OPERATION
Under normal operating conditions, a low impedance is present between the –IN and –OUT terminals of the base, so that power and signals pass to the next base in line.
If a short-circuit or abnormally low impedance occurs, the fall in voltage is sensed and the base isolates the negative supply in the direction of the fault. The isolated section is tested using a current pulse every five seconds. When the short-circuit is removed, the power will automatically be restored.

From this the isolator will isolate on whatever side the short is on so it will be from the out on one and on the in on the other (or vice versa) so I don't think (well,Ive never checked it myself up to now) it matters but Id run it past Apollo just in case.

The base doesnt need to be wired as in and out across the isolating terminals, as the panel will poll the loop both ways anyway.

I can also confirm that you can wire the 'IN's and 'OUT's any way around without any effect. Apollo have bi-directional isolators.

However, fault-finding is far easier when you know which cable is actually the IN and which is the OUT.
