Title: Fire Alarms for hard of hearing
Post by: jakespop on March 03, 2009, 08:48:11 AM
I have been asked to advise on providing additional fire alarm in an area of an industrial building which has a deaf member of staff. There are already strobe visual devices sited but concern of management is that staff member will be visiting various part of building and have asked if there are any mobile devices that could be carried which would emit a vibration or similar when alarm activates. In the past I have always relied on visual devices and management control/personal evacuation plans. However this has raised a question I have not been asked before. I suppose I am looking for something which would work on "Dorgard" principle but has anything like this been developed?  Is there any such device out there?

Try RNID. They have a portable vibrating device which can be actuated from a remote location. Maybe it could be adapted or managed to suit your needs.

Deafalerter and Scope both produce a portable vibrating pager for use with transmitters linked to fire alarm systems. These systems have been developed with the BS recommendations taken into consideration.

This problem has been discussed in this forum previously, please use the 'search' facility to locate these posts.
