Could anyone give me an idea of the cost to install a simple BS5839-1 system?
It is purely to get an idea in my head so say a simple three storey building with a single stair. Lets say a cat L4 system - single detector and mcp on each stair landing.
Would £2500-3500 be about right????
Any comments much appreciated.

Probably a bit on the light side tbh. but not knowing the layout and dimensions would really be a guess.
Who has determined that an L4 system is adequate?

Buzz
Is there a loose rule for a guesstimate of the cost of installations say for example so much per head and break glass point and for associated cabling and the cost of a panel to suit the number of actuation points?

If you use the same contractor all the time then you can sometimes come to an agreement on a per point price (anything from £85 to £120) on a "normal" installation (per point being each termination). This then works on a "swings and roundabout" principle where they might take the hit on one but generally cone out ahead on the rest.
If you use a two wire system then you'll save on cabling.

Thats a little how longs a piece of string question. More info would be needed to guess

Would that guesstimate of say £120 per termination for your run of the mill system include the cabling and panel?

It is only a guesstimate Thomas so that the non electro types like me can offer a rough price rather than asking for something for which I know nothing of the cost.

Being a conventional system I would say, allow £100 per device (detector, or MCP, sounder could be incorporated into the detector) and a guid of say £300 for the panel. Then allow say, £250 commissioning. Therefore your estimate will more than cover this if it's an L4, and we're assuming a detector on each landing and MCP's plus sounders.

On info given, sounds way over the top.

4 zone,6 heads,4 MCP's,sounder bases, one sounder at panel, batts + commissioning = round about £700.Installaton would be additional of course and depends on mark up (if any) on electrical contractors price.
-
I would expect to see a figure somewhere in the region of £1700.00 for supply install and commission

How would you break it down BF?
-
It all depends who is doing the job - an electrical contractor will do it cheaper than a company who has to sub out the install.
In our case it would be closer to the £2500 mark (which I'd say would be the upper limit for using better gear) but it's horses for courses

Basically I would say Around £1000 for install, £450 for kit and around £250 for sommissioning. Based on the information given of detectors/MCP's per floor etc.
Give or take about £10%
