Title: Flush mounted Strobe light??
Post by: Thomas Brookes on April 29, 2009, 08:56:52 PM: Does anyone know any company who manufactures a flush mounted strobe light?.

Been asked if I can get such a thing, must be flush to stop people putting rope or string around it.

Post by: Wiz on April 30, 2009, 09:03:12 AM: If a visual warning device was flush, the angle of view would be very limited, particularly if it was ceiling mounted. This is why such devices are not common.

You will probably have to accept a low-profile rather than completely flush unit.

Delta design to a large range of specialist beacons, so they might have something.

Alternatively you might be able to manufacture something yourself with a blank plate and indicator, especially if a flashing lED was acceptable. Try RS components/Maplin/CPC.

Thanks, its for a offenders institute, they have got some hard of hearing residents and can not have anything that can have something tied to it.

Thomas. Would a protruding indicator light which is tapered not suit, if you get my drift?

If the base is firmly secured to ceiling without a gap it would be difficult to get a rope behind it.

Is the ceiling solid or tiles on a grid?

Need to be careful there. If the lens can be taken off easily they could get at the cabling which could be strong enough for the purpose intended.

Post by: Wiz on April 30, 2009, 05:17:00 PM: Whilst the various suggestions above are options to be investigated, if the hanging issue is such a problem, how about a bit of lateral thinking by not having any new strobes at all:

a) You say they are to be installed in an institute, one would imagine this means the system is not there for members of the public and that the hearing impaired are managed by staff. So make it the staff's responsibility to ensure the hearing impaired are aware of the condition when the strobes would operate?

b) The building must have some sort of normal electric lighting. Whenever the condition exists where you would want the strobes to operate, install a gadget that will flash the lighting off when it is on, or flash it on when it is otherwise off.

No strobes - No hanging risk.

Simples!
