Hi All,
I am currently dealing with a project in its final stages previously un-notified to me, where the fire alarm system has been modified, (additional 20 or so detectors added to an existing system). BS 5839 explains that a soak test is required for a system with more than 50 detectors. The system, even though I haven't counted them must have in excess of 50 detectors including the original fitted SD.
Does this mean that a soak test is required, even though the added number of detectors is less than 50. In other words is a soak test required for the added and original being over 50.
I believe at this stage the system is closed protocol and the software is also going to be re-programmed for the additional detectors.
Any help would be useful.

The answer is no.
50 or more 'new' detectors
Same goes with a commissioning certificate and design certificate, you will be certifying the new installation
