Title: Heritage Pub with Sleeping Accommodation Above

The sleeping accommodation is situated directly above the pub's kitchen.  I didn't manage to look above the false ceiling in the kitchen.  The means of escape is through a 30 minute protected staircase to fresh air.  There is an alternative 'route' which is through a first floor function room which also goes to fresh air air. The pub is covered throughout by heat detection linked to detection in the sleeping accommodation.

In accordance with LACORS my solution was to verify or make up the false ceiling in the kitchen to achieve 30 minutes fire resistance (I don't know how practical this is) and replace all heat detection with smoke detection. Additionally, install smoke detection in the first floor function room which already has fire doors on it.  Agree or disagree?

I don't know why you are looking at LACORS for this. You are really protecting relevant persons from a fire in the Pub.

However, for landlord/managers accommodation I would say that 30 minutes separation with smoke detection and an alternative escape route sounds reasonable to me. If the sleeping accommodation is for members of the public then other measures might be necessary.
