Title: Interesting fire extinguisher videos - Domestic use & fire rating tests
Post by: AnthonyB on June 05, 2009, 03:02:57 PM
German programme comparing various types of extinguisher for home use via practical tests on a Christmas Tree, Sofa & chip pan.

The following are used in the tests:

1: 800ml aerosol type (?AFFF) similar to the Fire Angel extinguisher in the UK
2: 3 litre cartridge Minimax Water with Additive Spray/Fog
3: 3 litre cartridge Meterin Wet Chemical

Order of use- Tree:1,3,2 Sofa:1,3,2 Chip pan:1,2,3

With Wet chemical extinguishers in cheaper, smaller 2 & 3 litres available in the UK and having passed the di-electric test, perhaps these now surpass powder for domestic (not vehicle) use where cost is not an issue.

The second German video illustrates how fire ratings are achieved for A & B fires using standard test fires. AFFF & Powder are used including a unique operators eye view of the powder test.

Shows how fire ratings don't translate to well to the real world user (who doesn't wear BA, etc) & how powder requires great skill to apply on the larger B class fires.
