Title: Transfer from Wholetime to the Retained.
Post by: riskman on October 23, 2009, 02:16:16 PM
May sound a bit of a strange one, but yes you did read it right. Does anyone know of an instance whereby a wholetime fire fighter has transfered to the retained and resigned from their wholetime contract?

Also does anyone know if they are eligble to also transfer their pension over?

An answer will no doubt be out there but various HR departments cannot give a decisive answer.

Any comments are welcome. Thanks

A WDS member could transfer to RDS, I guess. Their pension could transfer but when it comes for time to take it is based ont he best of your last three years.............so a WDS pension v an RDS one, assuming more than 3 years RDS, not a good option!

had a couple of WDS firefighters 'retire' from the wholetime (and collect pension) and immediately start on a new contract on the RDS. Probably a common event now, but unusual when it happened. Seemed a win / win for the firefighter and the retained crew.

We have got a guy on my section who was wholetime/retained. He has since retired from the wholetime and now just does retained. Gives good day cover!!
