Title: IP65 enclosure with fire panel
Post by: spanner on March 14, 2010, 01:13:32 PM

Hello guys,
Just want to bounce something off you.
If you were to replace an existing panel for a new one which is to be enclosed inside an IP65 enclosure with a glazed front due to the room’s environmental conditions, should there be an optical detector inside the enclosure? Enclosure is 1000x800x350mm

Thanks.

Its always a good idea that 'the main panel' is always protected , and I even recommend this on a manual system .
I would think that if a fire occurred and it was the panel that started it , a large cloth would be needed to remove the egg off one's face.

Yeah, there would be a certain amount of irony there.

I had already allowed for a device in the enclosure as its IP65 rated, but it’s just nice to get a second opinion.
I know in BS5839 there is a mention to fire panels being protected just wondered how far they go with it.

If the panel is to be enclosed in IP65 enclosure do you have rated vents or are the batteries being charged elsewhere?

Many moons ago I had the same requirement and Yuasa was not happy with their batteries being charged in a sealed environment.  They stated that even though the batteries were "sealed lead acid", they would vent hydrogen if over-heated or over-charged.

I ended up having to source specialist IP65 vents, the hair I tore out has yet to grow back!

I did not even think about that, thanks  :). Just one of those taken for granted things.
Where did you get your IP65 vents from and where they a standard size round cut out?

The vents were very difficult to source try  http://www.gore.com/en_xx/products/venting/protective/products/screw-in_holder.html (http://www.gore.com/en_xx/products/venting/protective/products/screw-in_holder.html) their customer service can be non-existent, but they do manufacture an IP65 rated vent.
