Title: Hospital Mattresses
Post by: Mushy on April 08, 2010, 12:22:49 PM
Hi
HTM-05-03 gives two different standards for hospital mattresses one British and one European

BS 7177 and BS EN 597-1 and 2

is this a choice or have they got to conform to both?

Apparently because they are classed as medical devices they are not covered by the Furniture and Furniture Regs!

Hi Mushy

The two are inter-linked.

BS 7177 is the main standard and BS EN 597 is the what I call a "satellite standard" which basically compliments and "bolsters" BS 7177.

BS EN 597 refers to how the matress should be tested

So in other words a matress which claims to be to BS 7177 standard should automatically comply with  BS EN 597 1 & 2 because in BS 7177 it states that as part of it's specification the matress should be tested to BS EN 597

Does that make sense or have I confused you ?
