Title: Flammable Liquids Handling
Post by: Gasmeter on July 23, 2010, 02:24:17 PM
I know this isn't strictly a fire safety issue, but I'm running out of people to ask; can anyone recommend a good training video for those who handle flammable liquids, such as solvents?  Many thanks for any suggestions.

Try PSNI for videos for flammable liquid handling Gasman. They have taken plenty of footage in Ardoyne this last while.
Would handling include throwing? ;D

I know this isn't strictly a fire safety issue......

I'd say it is.  Your question is most welcome.

Thanks NT, I never thought of asking our resident experts  ;)  I still haven't found a suitable video, which is really surprising given the risk involved.

You could try

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1ryKxpr9Ok

or the european solvents industry group

I note that the DVD is now freely available for download.

On the subject of flammable liquids (lets say all fluids to cover gases). Do members and guests see any use in proposing a Dangerous Substances Explosive Atmospheres Thread?

Would see this as covering the requirements of BS EN 60079 and use of electrical/mechanical equipment within hazardous areas.

It could also take into account dust explosion hazard, Explosion Protection Documentation etc?

In the spirit of global interest we could include ATEX and NFPA considerations

Any takers??

Thanks for the links BLEVE, still not quite what I'm looking for; the search goes on.  I think a DSEAR thread is an excellent idea, there's a big overlap with fire safety.
