New? Not new. Saw similar product on Tomorrows World many yonks ago.

seems quite good and would be placed at top corner away from kiddies, although the price is steep at £49.23 per window

Is it not cheaper and safer to provide smoke detection on escape routes?
Mind you, is it not cheaper and safer to open the window?

There are and have been similar products on the market for quite sometime.
They are good for domestic scenarios, particularly where you dont have openable windows, have accepted the use of window breakers in HMOs before now, based on the normal requirements of where window escape is permitted.
