Gents,

bit of your vast knowledge required please as differing opinons are becoming ever greater!

With reference to B5 Functional Requirements of the BR's which articles of the RRO apply to maintaining systems such as testing and servicing of ventilation systems and fire lifts and fire mains?
Article 17, 38 neither or both?

I would say it is A38.

Also with regards to A37 for fire-fighters switches, does this apply to other cut off systems e.g. industrial eletcrical process such as high voltage cutting machine (obviously exceeding the prescibed voltage)  :)

Yes, Article 38.

Article 37 is specifically for tube lighting that uses high voltage.  It is one of the idiosyncratic (idiotic!) quirks of the regulations that it addresses some items in great detail, such as these lights or the reference to sliding doors under Article 14 (2), and it leaves gaping holes elsewhere that are covered by some very general statements.  Personally, I feel it should have stuck to the general statements and left the detail to the associated guidance.

Hi Steve glad we got you on board in the end.

Article 17 requires the RP to maintain those things provided for the safety of relevant persons and Article 38 requires him to maintain those things provided for the protection of firefighters. Some overlap is inevitable. Ventilation for example can be for the safety of both. Firefighters lifts can be used as part of the strategy for the evacuation of disabled persons. The fire fighting lobby may also be the lobby for the protection of the means of escape in a high building.

I dont know the answer to your question on firemens switches. you may find the answer here-http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1982/30/part/V/crossheading/firemens-switches.

I looked but am none the wiser.

Yes tube lighting will be joked about for many years at the FSC especially after the RRO goes...
