Cheers Mike - Interesting article - I wasn't aware that we had "stacker type" car parks in this country yet.
Ive been to a couple of car fires within multi storey carparks and some premises have been turned into car parks because of fire, but it would be interesting to see how access for fire crews and the like is achieved in stacker system car parks!

The first UK 'Stacker car park' was built in Woolwich, SE London, in the early 1960s. I was in my mid-teens at the time and lived nearby.
It held some 300 cars, as I recall, but was demolished after a couple of years because it was unreliable. I think it achieved 99% reliability - but with 300 cars that meant that at least 3 a day were getting stuck in it! I think everyone else kept clear of them after that.

For anyone interested in the subject you should look at the BRE report where they test the unsprinklered stacker.

The BRE findings are thought provoking stuff, there are lots of these stackers about & there will be more coming
