While I think of it, is this really an "operational" post?

I thought this was the area for squirting water and cutting people out of cars etc.

Brian, he gave me 3.2%, which I thought was ok. Should I have asked the old duffer for more? As for firefighters ( that's the modern term for them) being water squirters, you are living in the past. Its a skilled profession. Perhaps you are thinking of the days when they carried 4 pennies on the machines to send back the stops via a public telephone.

Damn, you are right. I should have asked for 4%. I will begin industrial action next week.

I appreciate that a firefighter's skills go beyond how to turn the hose on but I wouldn't decribe the July pay rise as an operational matter.

Perhaps you could consider a work to rule. Start by working only when the boss does. That'll show him.

you should have gone for 3.4% colin, plus a bit more for some to 'sort out differentials'

it seems as good a figure to me as any other i could have made up

on the understanding that it wont prejudice my position in the new order come the day of the revolution, id be pleased to welcome you back to the fold. i say welcome back cos i suspect with your ancestral history your forefathers, or even your fivefathers were indeed of the socialist persuasion!

you may not be able to join the union you hold in high regard against all others though, perhaps an independant union may be the right move - the last time i negotiated with your employer though i ended up buying my own lunch, so im not so sure my skills were as productive as your employer who just waved a slip of paper in the general direction of the cashier! but if you think i could be of any service please forward your personal details, bank account details and passwords along with a full set of house keys to my offshore banking organisation where i will keep them safe and secure it my personal safe deposit box.

CIRCULAR:    2005HOC0352MW

4 July 2005

TO:   ALL MEMBERS

Dear Brother / Sister

FIRE SERVICE PAY SETTLEMENT

The Fire Service Pay & Conditions Agreement 2003 provided that with effect from 1 July 2005, pay would be increased in line with a new pay formula.

The pay formula agreed was as follows :-

The National Joint Council has agreed that the increase derived from the formula is 3.4%, and will apply to all current pay rates.

A further circular giving full details of the pay rates will be issued as soon as possible.

Best wishes.

Yours fraternally

MATT WRACK

Now that I am a brother, on a point of order mr chairman ( I heard that expression once on the Wheeltappers and Shunters prog on TV), can I just say that the piece of paper entitled me to a starter, main course, desert, drink and a bar of chocolate from the rack (no rack, not Wrack) at the till, Davey. I was merely availing myself of my rights under my contract with the management, as all we brothers do!!!!
