Title: Fire Statistics - Specific to hotels
Post by: thebuildinginspector on March 06, 2011, 09:36:22 AM
Hi all,

I'm brand new to the forum and I was looking for a bit of help and advice?  I'm doing a piece of coursework at the moment for my University degree and I'm trying to track down some data regarding fires in hotels.  Specifically, the room in which they are most likely to start, the extent of damage and the ignition source.

I've tried the DCLG Fire Statistics but they don't seem to go in to a lot of detail; any help anybody could give would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Drew

Fire prevention journal publishes stats on large fires and does them by sector (I think you may wish to define size of fire, remember that hotel kitchens might have tiny fires on a daily basis).

Subscribers to the journal, maybe.....I think, can request data from them.

Insurance companies might have stats. Think royal sun alliance, aig, zurich......commericsl uk insurers.

I would speculate the answers will include kitchen ducting systems, smoking (in bed), arson and contractors messing things up.

Uk fire statistics used to break this down a lot more. I have data on causes of fire for hotels for the year 2004 or so.  I also have data on fthe number of fires in hotels that start in bedrooms and the number that start elsewhere. This is a run of 5 years' data and is almost quite recent.

If you give me a ring, I may be able to help.
