According to ADB different occupancy levels have been assigned to the various building uses.
The one I am interested in is the Museum figure of 5m2 per person. Can any one enlighten me as to how this figure, and the others, was derived?

Not being able to give a direct reply - though I guess the answer is lurking deep in the Post War Building Studies, it's always interesting to see how other countries address it - especially if there are big differences. Interestingly the 1988 California Building Code gives occupany load factors for "Art Galleries, Museums and Display Rooms" as 50 ft2 / person - which is about a quarter of the English and Scottish standards (both 5.0 m2) - this should give you some room for manoeuvre - forgive the pun.
Much of course will depend on the nature of exhibits and its popularity.

Fred,
5 square metres is 53.8 square feet - so if you're right, there's not much difference at all.
