Title: Changes to BS7671 "Wiring Regulations" to be published July 2011

There will be a new version of the "Wiring Regulations" published this month as BS7671:2011 17th Edition with Amendment 1. It takes effect from 1st Jan 2012.

Of interest particularly regarding fire safety, the 'Periodic Testing' of installations is one area undergoing significant changes - it will now be known as the Electrical Installation Condition Report with better recording of the tests carried out with a simplification of the codes indicating if the installation is dangerous or not.
Other changes include protection of cables concealed in walls, operating or maintenance gangways in restricted areas such as switchgear rooms, surge protection devices, reduction of electro-magnetic interference, and a completely new section on installations in medical locations.
