Title: Professional Indemnity Insurance
Post by: cbfire999 on July 06, 2011, 08:48:10 AM
Morning guys, the dreaded PI insurance is due for renewal!  Currently with Sennet which covers all my training requirements, Fire, First Aid, Manual Handling etc and includes cover for Live Fire Training.  Just wondering who people are using these days and if they see there own as being competitive? Must include Live Fire cover!

Thanks in advance.

You could give Hiscox a try.

Didnt know anybody offered cover for live fire training apart from using an LPG rig.

The insurers who the Fire Service Preservation Group use cover live fire demonstrations and training using combustible materials other than just gas rigs. There is an excess and some conditions attached, I'll have to dig out my certificate to look up who they are.

I used to be with Hiscox until I mentioned live fire use and then they started talking in telephone numbers. Try Pro- Visions Insurance Services in Oakhampton Devon Tel 01837 650030.

I was recommended to them and they came up with a rather good cost for PI (£2,000,000) and Public Liability cover (£5,000,000) at less than £500.00 per year. A friend has just renewed his with only a few pounds increase.

Thanks Colonel, I will check that out.  Currently, we are paying just shy of a grand for less cover than that with Sennet!  What I meant by Live Fire was LPG but either way most insurance companies baulk when you mention fire!!  There insistance is hard hat, goggles and gloves!  As if that is going to stop someone from being burnt!  Surely, just insisting that no delegate gets any closer than say 5 paces is more than sufficient.  I use football cones as a marker and it works fine, then if they do it wrong get them to do 20 press ups!!

When it comes to PI insurance make sure you are comparing like with like. One key issue is to ensure you are covered on an each and every claim basis.
