Title: Grills in Fire Doors

Am I wrong?grills in fire doors for
Ventilation purposes or any other
For that matter must have low
Air resistant intumescent vents fitted
As well.these grills are in the lower
Third of doors nut are approximately
30cm 12inc square.

The grilles should have been tested to BS476-22 and given certification to show that they will perform as needed, and the manufacturers literature should state where they can be fitted, and how they need to be fitted.

The maximum dimensions/positions are whatever testing showed is permissible.

You're better off fitting a grille higher up in a door so that it seals quickly and minimises smoke spread.

Thermally operated dampers are not suitable for the protection of escape routes.

They should be mechanical dampers triggered by AFD. 

Thermally operated dampers (intumescent or mechanical) are OK for compartmentation.
