Does a wet pipe sprinkler system with its own dedicated water tank (about 3 cubic metre of stagnant water) require treatment for the legionella bacteria or other. In case of spurious discharge.

The Loss Prevention Council have prepared a technical briefing note (TBN 14 May 1999) that fully answers that question.

My summary of their summary is that the risk of catching legionella from a sprinkler system is negligable.  The recommendations include to "incorporate fire fighting system into any existing legionella monitoring system for the site"

The LPC can be contact details are at www.bre.co.uk Dr Richard Bailey is the guy to speak to about this.
