Title: Internal office

We are currently building an internal office inside the warehouse. The size is approximately 12' x 12' and there will only be two people in there plus pc's, printer and a wall mounted heater. There will be a FD30 fire door and a normal window.
The roof of the office is going to be wooden- covered with plaster board.

As we are currently updating our spriknkler system, we will be installing one in the office.


My question is; do we need a fire door? or do the window and roof need to be rated at the same level as the door?

I will be recommending fire detection in there, as they have not planned for this.

No real need unless you want to provide some protection of the contents of the office from a fire in the warehouse or vice versa.

I would agree with NT. The fire door serves no purpose, nor does the roof, especially in context with normal windows. There would be no requirement to fire separate this even under building regs as due to the size it would simply be classed as ancillary use as per ADB.

I would get a quote for a 30FR door at least though! If you can afford it there is no harm in having it and it may end up being of benefit.

How could it be of benefit? There is normal glazing in the office.

As already stated unless the rest of the office is enclosed in 30 minutes F/R fire door will be of no benefit.

Just one other consideration- how far is it from the office door to the nearest fire exit rom the warehouse? If its more than about 20m do you have a choice of alternative exits in different directions from the door to the office?

Some places leave the roof off the inner room and so the roof sprinklers can cover the office.

The nearest fire exit is about 10m from the office door.

The door opens into the warehouse where there are a number of alternative exit routes. The next door is about 30m from the office.
