Was at the BRE Seminar on the Rosepark fire last week. There was some lively discussion about the cause of the fire which has been recorded as electrical. For those of you who were present and others, I know CT was for one, any views on the presentations given by the electrical experts as to the cause?

I have some recollection that is was caused by pads stored against a low level fuse box with the cover missing. i think that a fuse got hot owing to the load being applied by the appliances being used. This may not be correct but I do recall the statement from somewhere

Its not correct at all!!! The official explanation can be found the the report of the Sheriff Principal.

Check out http://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/opinions/2011FAI18.pdf may find what you want.

Colin, what did you make of the comments by the two electrical experts at the presentation?
In my view, the second expert, although stating that it was possible that the fire started in the manner stated, seemed to be of the view that it was less probable than the first expert suggested. He was questioned on this I'm sure you will recall and gave a fairly assured answer to the point. Or have I misinterpreted his (the second expert) comments in his main presentation?

I cant remember the running order of the experts, or who said what at the BRE seminar, but having studied the original evidence, I was always happy to accept that they had got the right explanation, and since it is the official finding of the Sheriff Principal, that makes it as good as a afct for me.

Is there a plan of the building layout available anywhere?

There's a link to Martin Shipp's presentation on the BRE investigation, which does contain plans:

I have managed to create a cad plan of both floors which I am going to use in a presentation.
I have not been able to identify every room in the building but the relevant bedroom on the ground floor corridors lift shaft and the storage cupboards are indicated.
If anyone wants a copy email me and I will send a copy in either PDF format or .DWG for use in Cad.
Let me know which version prefered.
I have tried to attach a PDF of the lower ground as an example I can not attach the ground floor as the file size is larger than allowed. Hope it works
