- The petroleum Consolidation Act 1928
- The highly flammable liquid and liquefied petroleum gas regulation 1972
- The Health and Safety at Work Act
- The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regualtions

- Note CS4 from the HSE

- LPC Recommendation For the Storage and Use of Flammable Liquid - Data Sheet RC20

In summary and in my opinion, quantities less than 50 litres can be kept inside a building if they are kept in suitably design cabinets.  The cabinets should comply with the 1972 act - in summary be of robus construction, resist accidental damage and be of at least 30 minutes fire resistance.

Within the cabinet the petrol should be within a closed non combustible container (not glass).

You should never have more than a days supply inside.

The rules for diesel are less strict than for petrol.

Please also be aware of your insurers requirements.
