Its not very often in this game when one sees the fruits of ones labours but I am today pleased that the training I have provided has had a positive result.
I have been providing training to a Nursing Home here for a few years now the last presentation being last Thursday. No matter how often I have done it and, regardless on the sighs from the audience, there are some things I always cover again and again ad nauseum. One of these is a short session on how to deal with someone whose clothing catches fire.
Unfortunately the staff had to put this training to good use last Thursday when a resident set fire to herself in the day room with a cigarette lighter. Luckily it happened in front of staff who were immediately able to put their training to good use by putting the victim on the ground and extinguish the flames by rolling her on the floor. This resulted in the degree of injury being much less than had the incident not been dealt with properly.
Regardless of how or why it happened, it did and I am happy that the matter was dealt with quickly by my training input.
The staff did tell the boss that only that I drilled things into them they may not have acted so quickly, calmly and positively to this emergency.
So repetitive training does produce results and I'm gloating.

Well done, they certainly took in what was said and helped to safe one person from suffering. What more can you ask that they listen and act accordingly.

The old, stop, drop and roll. I saw a dog do that once, a firedog, as part of an american teaching practice in fire safety.
