Please can you help me to find out who to contact for the securing of a grant for Fire prevention equipment. I am a leader in the New Life Church in Grantham Lincolnshire and we have recently acquired an old church building, which we are renovating. We urgently need to have the right equipment installed and wondered if there could be help by way of a grant to enable us to do this. It is urgent as we have a congregation of 90-120 each week and soon will be using the church throughout the week for meetings etc. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
I received the above post today does anybody know if there are any such grants.

Whilst I believe there are still grants for fire precautions in HMO's for up to 50%of the cost of works the only thing I know of for other premises was the Fire Precautions (Loans) Act 1973, which is long gone and only related to premises covered by the FP Act who had received a notice of deficiencies as a result of their certificate application - they could apply for a loan from the LA for the cost of building or structural works required in the notice.
They need a decent FRA first before wasting money on things that might not be sufficient or conversely might not be needed.
The most worrying thing is they seem to be using and expanding the use of the premises despite the lack of GFP in the premises!

I am not aware of any grants either. Churches have to buy/rent their extinguishers like everyone else, alas!

John.
You referred one time to a group of good and true looking at fire safety measures in churches and a report on recommendations was to be forthcoming.
Did this happen?

It was the IFE Heritage Special Interest Group - but due to family ill-health I've had to miss the last few meetings and I'm awaiting details of publication. Will let everyone know when I know.

Thanks everybody its just what I thought, I do remember the FPA grants but the HMO grants are new to me however in the present economical situation I cannot imagine any will be available now. http://www.grantsexpert.co.uk/grants-available-for-landlords.html http://www.horsham.gov.uk/housing/1521.aspx
Piglet thanks for your offer but I do not wish to get too involved the fact that no grants are available is enough for me.

A lot of local authority websites make reference to the HMO scheme, it's best searching the site of the authority where your client's site i for info and if it's a bit vague contact their Housing Department.
