Title: Building Control Approval
Post by: lingmoor on November 27, 2013, 09:07:48 AM
Hi all

I have identified some steps on a fire escape route pathway to the rear of a building, where on occasions there are wheelchair users (children).  I have asked for the steps to be replaced by a ramp. I have been told that the work will be done, subject to building control approval....I know it is 'construction' that affects the MOE,  but is this approval necessary?

Cheers

Maybe possibly LM. There are technical specifications for ramps - 5.28 of AD B.
Would do no harm to check out with BC as to what is going on and how the ramp will be constructed. They might nod it through on the strength of a letter.

Ramps have to comply with the functional requirements of part K of the Building Regs.  Search online for Approved Document K.
