Title: Door opening force for a final exit

Does anyone know what the door opening force required is for a standard GF final exit within a non-domestic property?

I am being cited anything between 30N and 220N - which is a huge difference.

I thought it was closer to 100N but can't find a suitable reference.

The property I am looking at is in Scotland.

ADM has a general access requirement. for convenience of people who might struggle due to age/disability I think that's the 30.

I think the 100 comes from the standard for pressurisation.

Arguably you should aim for the ADM standard wherever possible but in some case you might be able to justify the higher figure.

SBSA Technical Handbook Section 4 Safety cites the 30N as well however BS 7036 Part 3 1996 cites 220N!

These are poles apart in terms of actual resistance and the contractor quoting the BS even though my small 16 stone body has to take a breath and push never mind the average 9 - 10 stone person!

Confusing!

Check with the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers - they know all this stuff
