Are the high volume pumps doing any good or are they just working to give the impression that something is being done?
Is the water just being recycled or is it going somewhere?
If where the water is being pumped to is allowing it make its way to the sea why don't they just dig a channel now and in the longer term drain the flood area using buried pipes?
Looks pretty impressive on TV but maybe thats the point. Making it look impressive but without real purpose.

It is probably doing the pumps a power of good, nothing like a nice long run to get a diesel engine running well.
As far as I understand the Somerset levels are below sea level so they have to pump the water up into the river to get it to the sea.
The other aspect is there is so much water in the levels that the pumps are putting on a good show but what they are achieving I am not sure.
Is it me or are we only seeing the same set of pumps on every news item?

I think they are showing the same thing everywhere

In which case, somebody somewhere should sponsor them and get their logo all over the news!
