Some interesting academic research just published by NIST regarding movement on stairs during building evacuations. Some of the times for pre-movement and movement speed are quite informative for those who think a building still takes 2.5 minutes to evacuate, the only note of caution I would add is that mean times include buildings where occupants require assistance to evacuate and these will skew the figures.
