Title: Worried what may cause electrical fire
Post by: kensync on October 09, 2014, 02:14:28 PM
Hi there,

I'm a little worried because the weather was bad today and the lightning was causing some tiny surges....a little later, I heard something exploding....not too loud but it was clear and I smelled something like a wire burning...

i have not observed any fire starting and it's already been a few hours but this got me worried...is everything ok?...and how can I deal with something like this?....I tried finding the source of the smell and it was near the window but I couldn't find anything...it could be the post outside but I don't see anything...is everything fine?

I would unplug all electrical appliances, cookers with timers, washing machines TV sets etc then reconnect them one by one testing each as you go. As a couple of hours have now passed since your posting I assume there have been no further causes for concern?

Get an electrician in to check the circuits and an electronics engineer to test the telephone and or data circuits.

Sam,
What would you suppose that the electrician might do?
