I am aware that the old BS7973-1998 did not recommend the use of security smoke generators (eg, Smoke Cloaks) in occupied buildings.
This BS was replaced with BS EN 50131-8 2009, which allows the use of such security measures in occupied premises. I understand that the reason for the change was to allow the equipment to be used in circumstances such banking halls to dissuade bank robbers - even when the bank was open for business.
I have been asked to consider the use of a smoke generator in a location where a MOE may be compromised when/if activated. I am wholly unhappy with the proposal for a number of reasons, but need to add some weight to my objection as the pressure to install such devices is significant.
Does anyone know what provision is given in the newer guidance (the BS EN) re use of these devices in occupied premises, and in particular any references to protecting access to MOEs?
I am reluctant to spend ?152 on a document primarily intended for security specialists, when I may just need to refer to a couple of lines

There's nothing of any great significance in BS EN 50131-8 - one oblique reference that there may be a "fire alarm inhibit" function, a recommendation that the fire alarm is isolated if you test the system and a recommendation to tell the local Fire Authority about the presence of such a system.
