If a fire alarm is wired into a security door to release on activation of the alarm are the following required on top of this provision?
Green break glass manual over ride
and
In the event of a power failure to release
The situation is a hotel in a listed building with an escape route through a bedroom, they are trying to eliminate the escape routes through the rooms, on one floor this may be achievable on another due to the travel distance and lack of compesatory features I dont think this is. They are looking at installing an electronic key card sustem but this would be linked to the fire alarm and would unlock in the event of a fire. I am unable to esablish (not knowing where tpo look) if the above are recomended or a must have in addition to the link to the fire alarm or just a recomendation.

BS7273-4 recommends the installation of a break glass emergency release unit.
The FSO Guidance for sleeping accommodation page 127 also covers this but is a bit ambiguous.

ADB mentions having all three types of fail-safe less ambiguously than the DCLG guides, at the end of the day you need to justify in your risk assessment what you do & don't fit - there are cases where there may be a greater (non fire) risk to safety from having a green BGU than not and similarly from not having a fire service link.
