Title: Lobby Protected Single Staircase 21 Storey Purpose-Built Block Of Flats
Post by: Tadees on December 16, 2015, 02:38:21 PM
Am I just being a bit dim?  I am sure there is a limitation in guidance as to the height (number of storeys) that can be served by a single staircase (lobby protected), in blocks of flats but I can't seem to find it.

No Limit.  As high as you like. ADB 2.20 and 2.32

Bang on, there's no limit on single stair flats.

If you had two lobby protected stairs you don't need to exclude one either.

But as you dont need to size the stairs it doesn't make a lot of difference :)

But you don't exclude the staircase in a single staircase block of flats either.

Thanks for your input, I'm sure that has helped the forum significantly.
The comments prior to mine covered that.
My sincere apologies for trying to provide additional info.

That would be like discounting the largest exit in a room with one exit!

Only a little bit of sarcasm Wee Brian! I'm funnier in person.

Wee B please stop addressing the taxpayers as mate.  Show some respect for those who pay your salary.

I asked the same question at Fire College and was told that there is no limit but in practice would be subject to engineering constraints.  Presumably that means structural engineering.

So a fairly definite maybe.

Engineering constraints, is that a technical term for travel distance in a single direction.

There is no limit on TD in the room, no self closers in the flat and the kitchen can be next to the flat entrance door.

I presume that means as high as is practical without it falling down or being a hazard to aviation?
