Title: Gatwick or other Fire House in the SE

Hello,

If I wanted to visit a purpose built Fire House (not a converted smoke house) can any one offer some contact details for some one at say Gatwick or some where else in the SE. My goal is to view the construction and fire safety measures and equipment with a view to a potential refurbishment programme. I would like to view the OMs to get a picture on construction. Also does any one know a consultant who has worked one new builds or refurbishments of a Fire House?

Can't provide contact details, but I know that Surrey Fire & Rescue used to have one at their Reigate HQ.

What about companies that could give advise on the design and maintenance of Fire Houses? Its so specialist and I need to get a consultant to advise on a complex matter.

Speak to the guys down at Devon & Somerset, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi,

I have seen the one at Reigate but I would like another site to compare it to.

Any one got an email contact for Devon and Summerset?

Has any one come across Inconel Bolts - I am considering using these to mount the ductwork for the extraction system. They apparently have high thermal stability and can with stand corrosive environments (a fire house gets wet as well as hot). Made from nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys.

Thoughts any one?

Never used the bolts, but when I used to burn stuff for a living (many years ago) we used Inconel tubes to support the thermocouples - horizontal lengths of tube about 1 m long supported only at one end coped with temperatures in excess of 1100 Deg C without any noticeable distortion.  They lasted for years without needing replacement - despite being struck by falling debris on a regular basis.
