We have extended single-direction travel distances in a hotel building bedroom floors by some 8m. We are out of compensatory measures so mechanical smoke ventilation is being considered for the stairwell and associated corridors. The system will be extract and designed by specialist.
Now I know that the specialist must provide details to prove their design but would this normally include a CFD? At the moment the specialist only referred to one being required when he was toying with a pressurised system.

I would suggest it depends on whether the building control body ask for the design to be supported by a CFD study. Even if they do, are they competent to check it?
