Suffolk County council Pensioners Newsletter october 2005
Page 3 column 2 par 3 onwards.
once the new scheme has been approved by ministers, existing firefighters will have opportunity to join it (also get ripped off).........
par 4
Briefly, it is anticipated the new scheme will be a final salary scheme, with firefighters paying between 6.5% and 8% of pensionable pay. the normal pension age will be 60 with the pension based on the formula 1/60 x service x pay, and a likely limit of 40 years service at age 60. A lump sum can be provided by giving up part of the pension, with a lump sum of £12 for each £1 of pension that is given up. It is likely partner pensions will be introduced.
par 5
The proposal is that the new scheme should come into operation in April 2006.
Par 7
Please remember though, any of these changes will not affect your pension in payment. You are fully protected from these future changes.

Please note that I have edited the above to by removing the email address of the third party.

Dave and Chris well conspired. As for Daves suggestion if followed to its logical conclusion no information spoken, reported or derived from anybody on fire service matters not put on her by themselves would be invalid.
-
fair point oily, and as it is in the public domain because she put it there then you are right and i am wrong!

The changes outlined in Lynn Wrights missive to Suffolk county pensioners (many thousands) with regard to firefighter pensions is as significant interest to many using this forum as any in recent times. To find that it is altered to delete her email already posted to the large number of suffolk pensioners and probably openly available on Suffolk County Councils website i find daft.
Lets face it she seems to have more insight into what is happening re firefighter pensions than any rep body at the moment. In consequence seems she is pucker source to use to find out just exactly what is going on.

oily - as provocative as ever i see!
she does use a lot of words/phrases that suggests she may not be the holder of all things knowledgable - has the consultation period ended yet?

Seems like it
-
well it seems to me that she is in the main only passing comments on the governments response to the consultation, but then again i expect you already knew that (which is why i asked the question!) but then again why tell everyone all the facts when a few provocative statements will do instead!
for anyone who wishes to read the govt response follow the links below and remember that merely having a view on the govts response and without wishing to sound disrespectful to the lady in question who is probably an extremely competent professional adviser, it perhaps doesnt give her anymore insight than any other pensions adviser that can read and has the ability to copy and paste

For info; the FBU have placed a pensions calculator on the website (thanks to Dave Bev):
http://www.fbu.org.uk/campaigns/pensions/calculator.php
Members should go here and see exactly how much we all stand to gain!!!
-
spin - thanks for the 'thanks' - only problem is that toddski and the capitalist state now know i can add up and do techy stuff aswell - (I didnt do the web page though, but i did get my tax return in on time!) - i hope my comrades recognise that come the great day, there is a need for skills additional to those required for the production of wealth for the landed gentry!
- for those interested ones the fbu is currently working on a local govt pension calculator in conjunction with unison (its driving the adder upperer mad so dont hold your breath)
