Hi,
Im just after some advice in regards to spent convictions? I have been in the process of applying for the fire brigade for the past 8 months now! Im at the final stages and the authority have obtained a CRB check. I got the copy in the post and it shows a conviction i got (whilst serving in the royal marines) 7 years ago. Now i know the conviction is spent (after 3 years) so will the recruiting authority hold this against me?
I did not make them aware of this conviction as no where did it ask for me to disclose spent convictions.
To say im worried would be an understatement, and i find it hard to believe i would be punished (again) for something that was done almost 7 years ago.....
Thanking you all in advance

Not my field exactly, but I don't understand why the Fire Authority are authorised to obtain a CRB check - this is aimed at specific employment fields on the grounds of protection of vulnerable people, financial and judicial probity and national security.
Liberty's website may help:

They also appear to run a helpline, if you want further assistance.

Firefighters may in the course of their duties (which are not just 999 calls, but include considerable CFS work) be working with, around & in the homes of the young, the old & vulnerable groups.
I would expect a CRB check to be standard for any of the emergency services. Just because CRB brings something up, it does not always automatically bar you from work, it will depend on the nature of the offence.
I don't know if like some jobs, fire services ar exempt from the Rehabiitation of Offenders act, but they most probably are
