This is a reply to an email I sent to the ODPM asking about the RRO.
Dear Thomas
The ‘Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005’ comes into force later on this year; 1st October 2006. We know that this is a difficult and frustrating period for everyone; but we want to have the "guides" and the “Order” suitably prepared and ready for the general business community etc.
In light of the new fire safety legislation; ‘Fire Safety – An Employer’s Guide (ISBN 0113412290) will cease to apply; and will instead be replaced by 11 Guides.
Guides will be available later on this year; free download (PDF file) and at any OPSI formerly HMSO stationery costing £12.00. For current RRO news and information, please visit our website (see below):
· Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 Current News Update: http://www.odpm.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1002882&PressNoticeID=2057
· Direct link to the Guides: www.firesafetyguides.odpm.gov.uk
We apologise for the inconvenience that this may be causing.
Regards

You know I thought I could hear some political wheels of central government churning away yesterday - quite a racket really - and it's a long way from Westminster to Devon.
Forgive my cynicism - its just a product of previous experience.

Am I right in thinking that there was some confusion on the ODPM website?
I'm sure it said, "31 October" last night and now says "1 October". I wondered if I had started hallucinating but seeing the 31st on some posts here (ivorfire) has persuaded me that the ODPM was even more confused than me.

Statutory Instrument 2006 No. 484
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Subordinate Provisions Order 2006
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/20060484.htm
This is what kicked it all off Steve - as the date of the coming into force was actually written into the RRFSO (as opposed to being implemented by a Commencement Order) then once Ministers took the decision to postpone it, then parliamentary time had to be found to amend the RRFSO with a statutory instrument - and they found time yesterday. The date in the SI is the correct one - for the moment..... I guess they could easily change it again.

Does the fact that Oct 1st is a Sunday have any bearing on things?
