I would look at the Code of Practice for Inservice Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment for guidance
Unfortunately many companies and Clients stick to the everything every year test.

Yes because it's handy and fits in with a FA and EL servicing schedule. I doubt if anyone would get a spark in every 3 months to PAT a vacuum cleaner with a £50 visit fee and £2 for the item.

The information I get from my inspections is that most insurance companies make it a requirement to test annually. Some insurance companies insist on 3 yearly periodic inspections of main electrical installations instead of 5 yearly.

Change of topic to EICR's
Our buildings are all meant to be tested every 5 years, so we do 20% every year, as it gives us time to carry out remedial works.
It also spreads the cost over 5 years.

Fixed installations should be subject to periodic tests and inspections. The frequency of the inspection is related to risk. BS7671 recommends, for example, annual inspections of caravan sites and quarries, 3 yearly inspections in factories and warehouses, 5 yearly inspections in shops and offfices and 10 yearly inspections in domestic premises

Sorry kurnal, perhaps I should have been more specific. I have been inspecting only residential care since January.
Changing topic again, what do people recommend for gas boilers/appliances. CQC make it a requirement to have everything checked annually and have a lardlords certificate (as per rented accommodation) many have tried to challenge the requirement. but ultimately if you want your registration you do as your told.
